Hawthorne’s book was reprinted by Altemus
in numerous
series and formats. These early 1892 non-series editions did not
reprint the “Preface to the Second Edition” which is dated March 30,
1850. All later reprints of this title did include the “Preface to the
Second Edition”.
The Scarlet Letter was also published in
this format in 1892. Note again that the 1892 Scarlet Letter's do not
have the "Preface to the Second Edition".
This book is published in the same format as an 1891 Addresses by
Drummond. Whether it is part of a series or not remains unclear.
