editions.
First Edition:
1. Imprint is Henry Altemus (Not Henry Altemus Company). Dated 1898 (in
Roman numerals) on the title page.
2. 7 x 4.5
3. Four glossy pictures including the frontispiece
Second Edition:
1. Imprint is Henry Altemus Company with the 1898 date.
2. 7 x 4.5
3. Four glossy pictures including the frontispiece
Third Edition:
1. Imprint is Henry Altemus Company with the older date.
2. 7.75 x 5.25
3. Five glossy pictures including the frontispiece
Notes:
1. Although all of the books have 1898 in Roman Numerals at the base of
the title page, only the first edition lists Henry Altemus not Henry
Altemus Company as the publisher. Apparently Altemus never removed the
older date Roman numerals from the later post-1900 Henry Altemus
Company books.
2. Note that the green colored cover of the book of the second edition
is the same as the last edition. Only the size is different.
3.The second edition was seen in two different colors. (See above)

The ooze calf editions
of this book were published between 1902-1909. They were published with
a labeled box.
I have seen two different ooze calf editions of this title. One is 7.5
x 5 and the other is 8.25 x 6. The larger book is green and shown with
its box below.
Both books have Henry Altemus Company on the title page with the
earlier 1898 in Roman Numerals. Apparently Altemus never removed the
earlier date from the later post-1900 Henry Altemus Company books.
The earlier (smaller) book has four illustrations while the later
(larger) book has five illustrations. This corresponds to the hardcover
editions which feature the smaller earlier books and the larger later
books.
