Earlier books with ornamental cloth and later books with decorated
boards. Book appropriate colorful line draw pictures on a burgundy or
grey background. The dust jackets match the earlier non series books.
Occasionally they match the book cover and occasionally they do not.
6.25 by 4.5 (earlier books) and 6 x 4.5 (later books).
Henry Altemus Company - Format 2 - Volumes 5-6
Linen cloth. Multicolored floral and decorative patterns with a
rectangular applique at the top of the cover with the book's title.
Dust jacket is blank except for the black lettered title which is
identical to the underlying applique. 6 x 4.5.

Ooze calf. Gilt top. Boxed. 6.25 x 4.75
Series Notes:
1. The original copyright dates of these books are given here.
2. All Format 3 books were published in the same style as the non
series books. They were published as part of this series only in 1909.
3. All of the books of this series (except for We Have with Us
To-Night) were originally published in non series form.
4. Some of these books note a publication date (month and year) on the
reverse of the title page. This dating was never changed through
subsequent printings and cannot be used to determine the edition of the
book or the date of its publication.
5. The Altemus catalogues and ads indicate that the series books were
in decorated boards and the non series books were in decorated cloth.
This is a generalization since a number of exceptions exist.
6. A number of the books that are in this series have the same format
as they had as earlier non series books. Only the dust jacket reverse
which gives a list of the Jester life Series is different.
7. Format 1 books have been seen with the cover illustration on an
applique. |
