Beauxarts Series

Q:  This seems to be an 1988 Beaux Arts series edition of Lalla Rookh, based on your series descriptions and photos. However, the cover is green rather than blue as described in various listings on Abe Books and in your photos. Wonder if that makes any difference in value - if this is of more than nominal value. It’s in VG condition based on my inexpert inspection.

A:  This book is part of the Beauxarts Series and was published in 1898. The green colored cover is probably the most commonly seen.

It is a reprint and this title is not a very desirable one. Thus, it only has nominal value. Other representative covers are shown on the series page.

Q:  I have been looking all over for price range for this book that I have but I have been unable to find much info on it via the internet. I am not sure if it is rare or not. I am really hoping you can be of some help! I have attached some pictures of the book to this email. Any help at all that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

A:  Your book is part of the Beauxarts Series and was published in 1898. All of the books in this series are reprints.

It generally sells for only a few dollars if it sells at all.

Q:  I inherited this book (The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin) along with a dozen or more other books all dated between 1850-1910. I've been trying to look this particular one up and get some more information about it. But I've been unable to do so. I'm hoping that you can gave me some insight on it. I'm am avid collector so I won't be selling it. But perhaps you could include a possible value.

A:  Your book is part of the Beauxarts Series and was published within a labeled box in 1898. It is a publisher's series that includes only reprints.

It only has nominal value.

Q:  What can you tell me about this book Thoughts Of The Emperor-Marcus Aurelius Antoninus by George Long. There are no inscriptions on the front cover. There is just Henry Altemus Philadelphia inside. No apparent date.

A:  This book is part of the Beauxarts Series and was published in 1898. All of the 109 titles in this series are reprints and originally came in a labeled box. During this year this cover has been seen in various colors.

Q:  Could you please tell me the book value or series of book for this house of the seven gables book? Thank you.

A:  This book is part of the Beauxarts Series and was published in 1897. All of the books in this series are reprints and were originally published within a labeled box.

This 1897 format was printed with numerous different color covers.

The 1897 Beauxarts' books are very, very common. Very few titles (including this one) have more than nominal value.

A:  Your book is part of the Beauxarts Series and was published in 1898. All of the titles in this series are reprints.

Q:  I have an old edition of The Prince of the House of David published by Altemus Publishing. There is no date page in the book. Could you please tell me a little about this edition? It was in my mother's library and she has now passed. She noted with it that it is missing pages 41 and 42 which is odd. I am very curious when it was printed.

I’m assuming it is not a first edition or anything rare like that, but I would like to know if it is something I should keep or pass on to a book lover. It is a neat compact book. It is slightly curved in at the edges making me think someone carried this tucked in their pocket for awhile possibly.

Thank you for any info you may have on it. I searched through the site and some on the internet and I didn’t see this particular edition come up anywhere.

A:  Your book is part of the Beauxarts Series and was published in 1897. During this year the cover was printed with many different colors. As you guessed, it is not a first edition but rather a late reprint and thus really has no significant value.

Q:  Attached is a photo of one of the 2 books of Emerson’s Essays that I own. I searched around on your website a little and couldn’t find any other volumes in this style. Can you tell me an approximate age and value and any advice on where to offer these for sale. I’m not sure just listing on Ebay is the best.

These volumes were passed down in our family and are truly beautiful.

A:  Your book is part of the Beauxarts Series and was published in 1897. It originally came in a labeled box.

Regardless of where you try to sell it, this book only has nominal value.

Beauxarts Series

Q:  Hi, I am looking for a value for this book. It was passed down by my grandmother but I don’t know anything about it except what I learned on your page:

Beauxarts Series (earlier numbering)
Publish: 1897-1898
Series:47
Volume 109 (Song of Hiawatha)
Format 2

A:  Books from the various Altemus publisher's series are reprints and unless they are titles of special interest to collectors, have no significant value. Frequently sellers confuse age/scarcity with value.
These books are quite common and generally are very hard to sell.

For information about this series see Beauxarts Series.
