Marqueterie Series

Q:  Found this pretty little book at an estate sale. I believe it is from the Marqueterie Series. I was wondering if it has any value. There is a double of the last page as seen in the photos. The House of the Seven Gables

A:  Your book is part of the Marqueterie Series. This series was published only in 1899 with stereotyped covers. All of the titles are reprints.

Some of the more collectible titles have some value, i.e. Alices's Adventure in Wonderland.

Your book is not a very desired title.

Q:  This is a book I received in my great aunt’s estate. It is published in 1895 by Henry Altemus, Philadelphia. The picture attached is true to the colors. Holmes' Poems
Does it have any value?

A:  This book is part of the Marqueterie Series. These volumes were published only in one format in 1899. All of the titles in this series are reprints.

The books are not very common but only a few very collectible titles have any significant value. Your book only has nominal value.

Marqueterie Series

Q:  Hi, I have a copy of Joseph Addison's Days With Sir Roger De Coverly as displayed below. The first several pages have detached from the binding but all pages are in nice condition. What is your opinion of the book, please?

A:  This book is part of the Marqueterie Series and was published in 1899.

All of the titles in this series are reprints. Although the cover is quite attractive unless the title is very collectible, a book in this series has very limited value.

Marqueterie Series

Q:  Hi could you give me any info on this book (Weird Tales). Copyright 1895 by Henry Altemus Thank you.

A:  Your book was published in 1899 as part of the Marqueterie Series.

It is a reprint and has minimal value.

Of note is that occasionally a Poe collector will pay a bit more for Poe reprints. Finding that buyer can be difficult however.

Marqueterie Series

Q:  Hello, Could you me anything about this book (Milton's Poems)- age/value? Thank you!

A:  Your book was published in 1899 as part of the Marqueterie Series.(../series/series130.htm) As you can see, the cover is of the Japanese inlaid veneer style.

This publisher's series was only printed during 1899. Thus, it is one of the more uncommon large Altemus reprint series.

Regardless, the books of this series four the most part have limited value.

Marqueterie Series

Q:  Is this book of any value (Autocrat of the Breakfast Table)? It is in relative good shape. do you know how many were published? thank you

A:  This series of 149 volumes was published in 1899. See ../series/series130.htm

All of its volumes are reprints and except for a few widely collected titles have little value.

Your book only has nominal value.

I do not know how many were published but it really does not matter. Rarity does not necessarily equate to value.

Mother Goose Series

Q:  Wanting to know what these books are worth. They are not in the best of shape but they are originals. Cinderella; or, the Little Glass Slipper & Puss in Boots

A:  These books are from the Mother Goose Series.

This series had three formats and were published between 1903 and then 1920's. They originally had dust jackets.

These books are in poor shape and have little, if any, value.

Mother Goose Series

Q:  Hello, Attached is the front cover of this book that I recently acquired. Beauty and the Beast

I have looked for similar pictures on your website but could not find the same book.

The book itself is in excellent shape. The DJ is in pieces though.

Could you estimate a value for me as well?

A:  Your book is part of the twelve book Mother Goose Series. It is a format 3 title from this series and was published after 1911.

With a jacket these books generally sell in the range of $15-20. With a tattered jacket it will sell for a bit less.

Mother Goose Series

Q:  While preparing for a garage sale my wife came across this book published by the Henry Altemus Company of Philadelphia. The "Puss in Boots and Other Stories" is in relatively good condition (an amateurs opinion). Although there is no copyright date on it there is an inscription from my wife's Great Grand Mother to her daughter dated December 25, 1903.

Any help or direction you can lend in determining its approximate value would be appreciated.

A:  Your book is part of the Mother Goose Series.

The red coloring on the left half off the cover indicates it is from the first format of this series and based on the inscription, a 1903 or 1904 publication. The stories and contents were reprinted from previously published works. It originally came with a dust jacket.

Collectors would consider your book to be in fair condition without any value. What someone might pay at a garage sale is hard to know.
